From the Basement to the Booth: Detroit's Studio Circuit
WORDS — THE COBAIN REPORT
Every city has studios. Detroit has circuits — networks of basements, bedrooms, and back rooms where the next record gets cut before the last one even drops.
The session starts late and ends when it's done. No clock, no A&R hovering, no notes from people who don't know the block. Just the beat, the booth, and whoever earned a seat in the room.
What outsiders call lo-fi, the city calls honest. The texture isn't a limitation — it's a signature. You can hear the room in the record, and the room is Detroit.
These are the rooms The Cobain Report was built to document. Because by the time the world discovers the sound, the circuit has already moved on to what's next.
